This is not an UPGRADE: The Old vs The New

Below is a comparison between the previous eVisa system that has been de-commissioned and the currently running eVisa system

Snapshot of the Cambodia e-Visa system before 28th June, 2008

In this snapshot, all translations is working perfectly.

In the current system screenshot at 28th June 2008, 1932hrs, the translations is totally messed up with gibberish text.

*****

Error messages in the previous system appears correctly and is in perfect alignment.

The error messages displayed in the new system is evidently an attempt to duplicate the design from the previous system.

*****

The screenshot above shows the previous system’s Flash animation that showcases customers feedbacks.

In the current eVisa system, a new flash animation with a reduced size is used.

*****

The Check and Change feature does not working anymore.

In the previous system, the Check and Change enables applicant to edit their eVisa certificates.

In the current system, it’s not working at all. Error messages shown are not relevant to the occuring errors. Also note the email address shown above in the screenshot above- cambodia.visa@gmail.com. We are not sure why the proper government-authorized email is not being used.

Is WeLoveCambodia.com Authentic and Legitimate?

If you have any doubts on the legitimacy of this blog, please check out the following comments from previous eVisa applicants.

Please note that these comments are left on this blog prior to the previous eVisa system being removed on the 28th June 2008.

Jasa:
2008-06-01 19:57:39 I found the e-Visa extremely efficient and promising. I have just returned from Siem Reap, and can confirm that all counters (despite only one labelled “e-Visa”) process them. I too wasn’t up for waiting in line. I definitely recommend e-Visa for fiends, family and interested people, as well as Cambodia for an amazing experience. Keep up the top work.

Robert Cheung:
2008-06-03 02:05:16 The application for e-Visa to Cambodia is a fast and efficient way. It only takes less than a day to obtain our visa. You don’t need travel agent to do it for you. It saves you a lot of time.

Michael:
2008-06-03 18:10:54 An amazingly efficient process. We submitted our applications 10.30 pm in the evening and the approval came back the next morning. Many thanks – why cannot other countries do the same?

Loren:
2008-06-04 03:21:50 The e-visa process is fabulous. It was very quick, easy, and efficient. My only complaint is that Cambodia charges both $25 for the visa and a $25 departure tax (for adults), which is a bit much. I really like the system, though.

Balaji Thirumalai:
2008-06-05 14:00:43 Excellent system with fast and efficient service! This is a system which other countries particularly developed ones need to adopt. Keep up the good work!

Cecille D.W. Whipple:
2008-06-05 22:57:43 Fast and efficient service! I had a wonderful time in Cambodia. I will visit again, and this time I will bring my family.

Is The New e-Visa System Secure and Reliable?

As of this writing, the new eVisa system is accessible via this link: http://www.mfaic.gov.kh/e-visa/vindex.aspx

One reader alerted the welovecambodia.com team on this link:

At the time of this writing, this is the screenshot of the page (click for larger view):

The latest information we got is that the new evisa site’s security is compromised. It doesn’t seems like the site was hacked.

Evisa was a brilliant process and was very effective. Now, I need to go to Cambodia again but couldn’t succeed due to the current problem.

I do hope that , this situation will be solved as humanly quick as possible and we will have this comfortable visa process system back on track.

I cannot believe what your bogus company has put us through. If traveling 24 hours wasn’t difficult enough. Getting to your destination and not being able to enter was insulting. I recommend that anyone traveling abroad not use e-visa! Now you don’t want to refund me! What kind of scam are you A-Holes running? I expect my refund be processed ASAP! I should have known the E-visa process was to good to be true. Anyone trying to obtain a travel visa BEWARE! This is a SCAM!

    Dear Josh Wader,
We truly understand your predicament and the trouble you have to go through. However, we have not been informed on the system’s removal and we are still waiting for the authorities to provide the necessary information on this matter.

If you have any queries, you might also want to try contacting the above mentioned contacts.

For your reference, Cambodiaevisa.com has been assisting evisa applicants in obtaining their visas in the past few years and have processed more than 70,000 visa applications. You can read about previous traveler’s evisa experience here.

Thanks for your patience on this matter.

  • Daniel Says:

    Hi,
I ‘m in the same situation as most of you. I’ve applied for the e-visa, it was confirmed via mail but i didn’t print the visa immediately, and a couple of days after it was impossible to get to the e-visa web. the payment has already been made, so i’m i bit confused, i don’t want to pay twice, and i would prefered to have all the papers in order before arriving there. I don’t know what we are suppposed to do. I don’t go straight to Cambodia, i go first to Thailand (tomorrow) and maybe there i can try to solve anything in the embassy, but i don’t know if they are up to date with this problem.
thans for answering me as soon as possible.

  • Lee Thayer Says:

Replys to the following posts. For all readers, I am NOT associated with cambodiaevisa.com in any way, I have used the site previously about a dozen times. I live in Thailand and have just a little bit of knowledge of how to travel around Asia.

Some people are posting comments here that are rude based on thier lack of knowledge on how to even enter Cambodia. I will clarify some of this here.

    ADMIN:
Thank you for your answers, they are appropriate. I was just trying to help people out here :) Easiest way to get through immigration in Phnom Penh, hands downs!

    ALL READERS:
Please understand that this is a blog for questions and viewers answers, THIS IS NO AN OFFICIAL SITE that can tell you if your approved visa is correct or not. This site however is providing appropriate information for you to check and see if you visa will be valid. STOP LISTING YOUR reference numbers here, this site cannot assist with that.

Matthys Johannes Lourens: Yes it should be, I see no indication that if a previous visa was issued that it is no longer valid. Enjoy your stay in Cambodia.

Shanna Nellis: I incorrecly stated what PayPal can do, my appologies for that.

Kyle K: Again, my appologies for the incorrect information concerning PayPal, but for payments through them, bound by thier rules. For your second post, I have used evisa numerous times, if something happened to you the fisrt time, please do not complain, they are shifting servers/services.

Yolanda LI: No need to go to a Consulate to get your visa, just fill out the application on the plane and follow the procedures in the airport, it is really not that hard, trust me.

Jim in Vietnam: Learn about the governement and the evisa previous site before spouting out, by the way the previous evisa site was not maintained in Cambodia, it was mearly endorsed by the government, it was hosted in Singapore.

Ryan: You are correct, thank you! But no one here can read :)

David Watkins: Border crossing are always questionable, I don’t know how many times you have done this but if you are paying 1,200 baht to enter, your an idiot and did not do your research, it is 20 US$ period. There is only 3 border crossings: Poi Pet, Cham Yeam, Bravet, I am assuming you are picking one of these 3 to cross into?

Hiroki Tajima: Read the posts from the admins of this blog, they tell you who to contact, this site cannot help you with your issue, sorry.

Fabio Turra: Read the posts from the admins of this blog, they tell you who to contact, this site cannot help you with your issue, sorry.

Sabrina Sacconi: Read the posts from the admins of this blog, they tell you who to contact, this site cannot help you with your issue, sorry. This site cannot send you a paper saying you have a visa (you actualy have to have the visa.)

Quammer Ahmed: Read the posts from the admins of this blog, they tell you who to contact, this site cannot help you with your issue, sorry.

Mizin Yu: Read the posts from the admins of this blog, they tell you who to contact, this site cannot help you with your issue, sorry.

Erica Linskill: Read the posts from the admins of this blog, they tell you who to contact, this site cannot help you with your issue, sorry.

Quammer Ahmed (AKA JONAS OLESEN: Read the posts from the admins of this blog, they tell you who to contact, this site cannot help you with your issue, sorry. (Use your own writing or stop impersinating people)

Josh Wader: Your an idiot, the previous system worked fine, sorry if you are discouraged. Commplaining to this blog does get refunds, they are NOT associated with the previous evisa site, in case you didn’t know. If you think the evisa is a scam, fly to Phnom Penh, stand in line for 20 minutes waiting on your visa and I will be out the door and in a taxi in less than 3 minutes, how do I know, because I have done it. Save your sarcasim for another site you are distressed about.

Lebret: First all, why do you give your passport number on an unsecure site??? Second, read the statement about the blog, this site cannot help you, sorry.

Jacques: You’re an idiot, that was site shut down. Stop wasting peoples time.

  • Suzanne McLoughlin Says:

Hi, I posted a comment yesterday about having problems like everyone else with opening my e-Visa. After emailing various addresses listed above I thought I’d give applying again another go, which was successful-I received the e-Visa this morning and printed it off.

At the end of the application process yesterday there was a message to say that there had been site maintenance but that the site linked to the Government web page was in working order and that cambodiaevisa had mistakenly sent out emails saying the service was no longer available. They gave the email address cambodia.visa@gmail.com as another address to send queries to.

It did cost me another $25 and I doubt the original fee I paid for the defunct e-Visa will be refunded, but for anyone who’d rather have their Visa sorted before leaving for Cambodia, and have received no response about their problem, it might be easier to just apply again and print off the visa as soon as they get it-just in case!

  • Admin Says:

    Dear Daniel,

Have you tried contacting the “Important Contacts” as stated above? As of now, those contacts are your best bet to obtain assistance on your previous eVisa application.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. We are equally clueless on what’s going on as well.

  • Admin Says:

    Dear Suzanne McLoughlin,
That’s one way to solve the current mess- to re-apply the visa.

However, to clarify on Cambodiaevisa.com’s email that was sent out, we did not mistakenly sent out the email saying the service was suspended. To our best of knowledge, the previous evisa system was indeed removed and was not accessible, as evident from the feedbacks of the evisa applicants on this blog.

That being said, thank you for sharing your application experience here on this blog.

  • Hans Mayr Says:

I got the O.K. for the e-visa for my family and me 2 weeks ago and I paid it already, but now I cannot download the 5 visa. What can I do??

  • Alex Stansfield Says:

    Hi,

I got to Cambodia yesterday. I had ordered two visas in old the old evisa system. The first I had printed before the site went down the 2nd was supplied by the people who run the new visa system (cambodia.visa@gmail.com) after I resupplied the application information (name, passport details, photos, etc). I was not charged anything more.

Both visas (new and old) worked fine at the border.

    ——————————-
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR NEED TO ACCESS AN EXISTING VISA EMAIL cambodia.visa@gmail.com
    ——————————-

They were very helpful and issued a new visa for the one I couldn’t access.

I’m sure this website is trying to help but for some reason or other (good or bad) their original system has been dumped by the government in favour of the new one. If you need help contact the address above as they are the people who run the new system so can actually help you.

If you need to apply for a new visa the new system is available here:
    http://www.mfaic.gov.kh/e-visa/vindex.aspx

ADMIN: If you really want to help these people please add this visa email address and website to the top of the page. I know you must be annoyed your system was removed but if you really want to help this is the best way.

  • Lee Thayer Says:

Hans Mayr: Do you read the posts or not? It is stated clearly that this site does not provide confirmation on the validity of the visa but does give valid information on who to email or call regarding your visa.

Just my opinion, but if you received it two weeks ago, you should have printed it then :) and all this would have been avoided.

  • Lee Thayer Says:

Alex Stansfield: Great post! Thank you that you have confirmed the new site is operational!

  • Lee Thayer Says:

to Admin, thank you for removing “Jacques” post, it was inappropriate.

  • Harald Stavestrand Says:

Yes I have been facing problems !

I arived Seim Reap airport 1 /7 08 from Vientiane ,Laos PDR and had
to bye a new visa for 20 $ +. The imigration control on airport would
not accsept my e-visa from you. Now I want my 20 $ + back. Thank you.

    Harald Stavestrand

  • Lori Says:

I purchases an e-visa, but was unable to download it do to the website issues. I therefore had to purchase a new visa at the border. Border control confirmed that I could get a refund from e-visa since I was unable to use the visa I purchase. Please advise on the process to get a refund. Thanks!

  • Simon Says:

I guess I was among the last to get to use the E-visa. When I arrived at Siem Reap the system had crashed and nobody using the e-visa was allowed through. After about 10 minutes they succeeded in getting one computer up and running, which slowly allowed people through. The system is in principal really good and inovative, but they’re suffering from really integrity issues with their system. Hope they get it up and runnning soon.

  • James Moody Says:

Has anyone had any responce from any of the email adresses? I emailed them all yesterday and have heard nothing back.

  • Jeffrey Says:

    Hi!

Just tried to get past the first screen of the evisa application. I’m applying for 2 visas.

After entering all the information including the photo location for both applications, I press next and get this error message at the top of the application form.

“The conversion from datetime data type to smalldatetime data type resulted in a smalldatetime overflow error.”

When I scroll down I see that all the information for both applications that I had just previously entered is still there except the photo field for the 2nd application is blank.

As a result, I can not proceed.

  • Frank Hoeschen Says:

    Hello James Moody,
I’ve got a responce but I will not belive that I’ll get the visa in time :(

Our sincere apologise for the issue you are facing with the provided link. We are currently undergoing system upgrades as part of our continuous effort to serve you better.

Your case is being looked into immediately with our highest priority and would revert to you in the shortest time possible.

  • Stella Misiulis Says:

I am having difficulty submitting my photo with my visa application The photo is only 535 KB .JPEG extension and yet it is being rejected can you tell me why?
    Please help Thank you

  • Admin Says:

    Dear Stella Misiulis,
You should contact directly the website which you have applied your visa from.

Right now at Cambodiaevisa.com, we are only assisting the visa applicants who are having problem during the sudden removal of the previous visa system.

Sorry we are not able to offer any assistance on that.

  • Admin Says:

    Dear Alex Stansfield,
Thank you for sharing your encounter at the border. This will clear up the air for applicants who are facing difficulties printing their visas and is running out of time verifying their evisa’s validity.

Appreciate your suggestion on posting the email address you’ve mentioned- cambodia.visa@gmail.com. However, we have been notified that the security of the new site is compromised. Please see this section for more details.

I agree that the email address can be helpful, but using a Gmail account as the correspondence email address for a government institution sounds abit fishy.

Rest assure we will post the email contact as soon we receive the response from the authorities. As of now, we will only list the contacts which we believe to be reliable.

Thanks again for your updates! Have a good trip in Cambodia!

  • Admin Says:

    Dear Morvan,
I am afraid to edit the evisa details you will need to do it on the website which you have applied it from.

On this site, we are only helping out travelers who are having problems printing and verifying their evisas after the previous evisa system was removed.

If you are still having problem, do contact or email the webmaster or try the Important Contacts section that we have listed.

  • Admin Says:

    Dear Meiko Hata,

Please refer to the Important Contacts and email the authorities to receive further assistance.

  • Brian Jeffery Says:

I am applying for 2 visas but the site will not accept my application- it just reverts to the aplication form page with all my information still in place apart from the photos. These photos are as requires.

  • Brian Jeffery Says:

Also I am surprised the application form does not ask for a passport number

  • Lee Thayer Says:

Brian Jeffrey: The second page of the application asks passport number, place of issue, travel info, etc. The reason for the first page is make sure you are travelling into an evisa port of entry, you have enough time on your passport, and that you can upload a photo.

I just filled out the whole thing and it worked flawless.

Check to make sure you are accepting cookies on your browser, that may be why it is kicking you back to the starting page.

  • Lee Thayer Says:

Check and Change portion of “new” site appears to be working. I tried several times yesterday and it came up blank, I just submitted a temp application, when to check and change with the ref. no. provided and it came right up, says application pending. Appears to be working.

    Hope this helps everyone.

  • Brian Jeffery Says:

Thanks Lee…it appears as though I am having some trouble with the photo upload, don’t know why

  • Robert Langley Says:

I’m in Cambodia now and I have done some checking.

The previous(old) http://www.mfaic.gov.kh website was hosted in Malaysia. Upon speaking to the officials here. It seems there was a security issue with the old e-Visa service provider from Malaysia.

Because of this urgency, the Cambodian government has to quickly transfer the e-Visa application back to Cambodia. I have done some tracing of the new system and confirm that it is hosted now in Cambodia.

Funny how a government website was hosted in another country initially.

btw, I was also informed by the officer here that http://www.cambodiaevisa.com is run by the initial e-Visa provider and its not an official blog!!

  • Lee Thayer Says:

Brian Jeffrey: The photo only needs to be 144 pixels by 144 pixels, comes out to about 3-5 kb in size. Just make sure you are not uploading a large image.

  • Lee Thayer Says:

Robert Langley: Great information, I thought the previous site was in Singapore, but that’s pretty close to Malaysia :)

It is a little odd to have the site in Malaysia, but then again, not that it is in Cambodia, the primary email is a gmail address :)

And yes, I think everyone is pretty clear that this is an unofficial blog.

    Cheers

This is not the site to give your ref. no. to because they cannot check your visa, this is a help blog/forum to provide guidance only.

Email your ref. no. to the address I stated above.

  • tani mikiko Says:

Please carry out e-mail transmission of the reference. What is this reference? July 7 start Cambodia is entered on July 10. If it does what Can e visa be found? Payment is already finished.

    Admin:

There have already been reports of people getting help from that email address. I myself I was given a brand new visa that got us through the border.

Anyone can buy an offical looking domain name if they want. You are clearly no longer running the evisa site but you’re using cambodiaevisa.com. Also you list a gmail and yahoo address in the contacts above.

The Cambodian visa department now offer a new address for people to contact help@mfaic.gov.kh. Will you please now add that to contact list?

  • Admin Says:

Thanks Alex, we are receiving some very important pieces of information that could explain the current chaotic situation. After this we shall post them up in this blog and clear up the confusion once and for all.

Once again, thanks for your patience on this matter.

  • Robert Langley Says:

Good point Alex, and i’m sure that only the government of cambodia can use the website with the extension .gov.kh

So far if I read the blog correctly and from my understanding, this is what i think happened.

    1. System was migrated from .php to .asp
    2. location of hosting was moved back to cambodia
    3. there are issues with some of the old applications of e-visa but there already seem to be a solution ( or at least attempts to resolve whatever issue they have).
    4. people have managed to enter Cambodia with the .asp version of the e-Visa

I would come to a conclusion that the current e-Visa website is the official Cambodia e-Visa website. They probably have some difficulties with the migration or had some hiccups. But by looking at the new items the included in the http://www.mfaic.gov.kh website, at least they are taking pro-active measures to resolve whatever issues that they are facing.

Like it or not, I’m amazed that the Cambodian government has created an e-Visa system as some of the more developed nations do not even attempt to have an e-Visa system. Keep it up and be proud of your country Cambodia.
